I thought yesterday, I should write a hot topic on music production tools on wireless devices...
What if you could control your music applications and music production tools with your fingers from your couch without plugging any wire ?
Some of you guys may be the lucky owners of an Iphone or Ipad, that's why I looked a little bit around and found some nice piece of softwares for you.
I wish I could have tested all of them, but I didn't so if you want to add your own point of view, please do !
It looks like a cool wireless Protools controller using Mackie's HUI protocol.
Take a look at the technical specs, a lot of common functions are available.
At the moment the only problem is the price... I think 99 € is a bit expensive.
Available for Iphone & Ipad.
Just like the ProRemote right before the AC-7 Pro is a wireless control surface software for Apple’s iPad (no Iphone development at the moment) running over a wifi network to a host computer running music production (DAW) such as Logic Pro, Digital Performer, Cubase, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Reaper and many others.....
Its multi-touch interface allows hands on control of levels, pan, sends, eq, plugins and more... automation can be simple, quick and accurate. Transport, timecode, track strip displays and level meters enable effective remote control without needing to be sat at the computer.
Here it is in action :
midipad is an app for the iPad/iPhone dedicated to music creation and live-performance.
The striking feature of midipad is its ability to directly communicate via network-MIDI-protocol.
So there is no need to install any communication-peer-software on the Mac!
Simply plug-and-play via Apple Bonjour - wireless. (I think it's the best feature indeed...)
This multitouch-capable midi-controller-application communicates with your Apple Mac your Windows-based PC and even standalone hardware-synths via Wifi.
In the production-environment midipad can control host-applications like Apple Logic, Steinberg Cubase/Nuendo, Ableton Live etc.
It can also be used to control stand-alone applications from companies like Native-Instruments, Spectrasonics and many more.
As a live-musician you can control sub-mixes of your virtual keyboard-rig, activate setups and change parameters of the virtual instruments or even hardware-instruments - all in realtime on stage.
There is also an interesting article about Iphone/Ipad music production tools on prosoundnews.com.
Peace.
Sam.
